A 12-week creative programme for young artists ready to take their art further and work towards their Silver Arts Award.
The Silver Award gives students the opportunity to take greater ownership of their creative work, challenge themselves as artists and develop their confidence as creative leaders.
For the first eight weeks, Silver students work alongside our Bronze group, exploring drawing, painting, mixed media, artists, creative careers and a range of experimental techniques.
However, their Silver journey runs alongside this at a deeper level.
Each student will choose a personal Arts Challenge designed around their own interests and ambitions. They'll set goals, experiment, respond to feedback and document how their work develops.
They'll also plan and undertake a creative leadership project, developing skills including communication, organisation, teamwork and problem-solving.
After our Bronze students finish in Week 8, Silver students continue for four additional Silver Studio sessions. These are more independent and give students dedicated time, mentoring and support to develop their projects and complete their portfolios.
Students will:
undertake an individual creative challenge
develop their skills through experimentation and independent work
research artists, creative practice and career pathways
experience and review arts events
plan and undertake a creative leadership project
develop communication, organisation and teamwork skills
learn to evaluate and respond to their own work
build a substantial creative portfolio
exhibit and present selected work
reflect on their development and future creative goals
Students will also have access to our private online Young Artists area, containing session overviews, resources, inspiration and guidance for work between sessions.
Course Dates, Times and Venue
Sessions will take place at the Charles Dickens Activity Centre, Portsmouth, from 1.30-3.30pm.

Session 5: December 4th
Session 6 December 18th
Session 7: January 8th
Session 8: January 22nd
Session 9: February 5th
Session 10: February 19th

Silver is a bigger commitment than Bronze and students should expect to undertake independent activity between studio sessions. We'll help them plan this so they know exactly what they're working towards rather than sending them home with the wonderfully vague instruction to "do some Arts Award."
